The breastfed tiger cubs died.
May. 13th, 2005 08:36 amApparently, mammals shouldn't drink the milk of another species. It's just not good for them. Who woulda thunk?
I'm rather disturbed by the fact that the poor cubs will be stuffed and displayed. Poor babies.

Several Buzzflash articles.
May. 13th, 2005 08:48 amQuestion: Is it better to list them in a group, or make tons of different entries?
Anti-US protests widening.
An editorial on the media.
While we're on the subject, how 'bout our liberal media?
And again!
Millions live in slavery.
Trojan is planning prime-time ads.
*sighs* No comment.
I'd feel better about this billboard if it didn't strangely capitalize the word We.
An article on journalism and Iraq.

May. 13th, 2005 09:37 amIn which I repeat a lot of tired old arguments.
This was their problem with VCRs, wasn't it?
Look, the problem isn't the downloading... well, some of it may be downloading, though I'd like to see some impartial estimates over how much they've lost. It's their lack of a carrot.
See, right now they just want to STOP THE MADNESS. And that's fair, that's fair. But it'll come to nothing if they can't come up with a replacement for people who, say, have no other way to view those shows due to their location. Who missed the shows the first time. Whose legal recordings didn't record the first time 'round.
I can't guarantee it, but I can say with some confidence that people would be willing to watch legal downloaded shows for a small surcharge, or with commercials intact (or maybe just on top of the page or something. Nobody really likes commercial breaks, do they?) if the choice really was between that or watching our favorite shows go into oblivion because of a lack of funds.
But instead, we've got lawsuits and no incentive to change our cheatin' ways. And that never works out well. At best, it creates a bunch of people who are half-educated arguing the merits of copyright laws, and lemme tell you, that's a pain and a half.

Finally read Conrad's Fate...
May. 13th, 2005 01:51 pm( My review )
So, all in all, I reccommend it. You can read it apart from the other Chrestomanci books, of course - it's more attatched to the main concept than Witch Week and Magicians of Caprona, but less than Lives and Charmed Life.
Of course, I still think Hilari Bell is better, and I'm not going to stop saying that until I see a crazy fandom.

Oh, hey, I have a question.
May. 13th, 2005 02:36 pmDespite my shortage of CDs (not that short a shortage, I just don't know where they are, and they're all my mom's anyway), I do have a lot of tapes. Which I haven't listened to since my tape player disappeared or died or whatever it did.
Is there a way (even an expensive way, since I'm just being all theoretical here) to transfer tapes to CD?

Remember the article I posted?
May. 13th, 2005 02:56 pmThere's some interesting discussion at
feminist on a related topic.
You know what happened to Oedipus, right? None of it would have happened if his parents hadn't gotten that damn prophecy in the first place (all those prophecies are either terribly vague or self-fulfilling, it's a complete scam), and the only reason they got the prophecy was because they wanted to ask if their unborn child would be a boy or a girl.
There's a lesson here. The gods want you to buy gender neutral baby supplies.
