Quite possibly into a thousand books.

I'm going to try (ha!) to sort through my books later, weed out doubles and whatnot. It's unlikely that I'll give away a book in great condition or anything, but if it's readable, does anybody want me to look out for anything? Sci-fi books, fantasy, whatever?

My internet connection keeps spazzing on me.

1. Using the ethernet cable instead of the USB cord? Does nothing. I get a little green light where it connects to the laptop, but no connection seems to be acknowledged by the modem.
2. Disconnecting the USB cord and reconnecting it? Nothing.
3. Unplugging, replugging-in the modem? Nothing.

The only thing that restores my internet is restarting my computer... a troubling sign, to be sure.

Of my blinking modem lights, the power and cable lights stay steady, as does the one that indicates the modem is hooked up to a computer. However, the light that is supposed to blink to indicate a data transmission doesn't, or only blinks very sporadically.

Any thoughts?

Edit: There's also nothing running that shouldn't be, so I doubt it's a virus or anything like that.

Weird name, right? Well, just recently, Jazzy said that valleys "always have water in".

Twice with the same construction. Would you say that? Or would you prefer "Music with rocks in it" and "always have water in them"?

Yeah, right. I'm wondering where he got the money for this "research".

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] randompenguin

And she mentioned "this chick at avalon". This chick (whoever she is) is somebody I don't know, and who hadn't been mentioned before, in this conversation or previously. And it got me thinking.

If she says "this chick at avalon", it's fairly obvious that I'm not supposed to know which chick at avalon, she's about to tell me. But if she'd said "that chick at avalon", I would be expected to identify which chick at avalon she meant - she wouldn't say that unless she'd previously talked about that chick at avalon. And "the chick at avalon" is even worse - either there is only one chick at avalon, or the is acting the same was as that!

But this chick at avalon...? I can't think of a way it'd be used to identify a chick at avalon whom I already knew about.

Why is that?

Another question: Why doesn't English tend to use that good old word yon?
