But I couldn't understand the vast majority of the song until I found the lyrics. Then, of course, they all fell into place. Why does it become easy to understand what I'm hearing when I can see it?

While I've actually pondered the idea of my having an Auditory Processing Disorder, the end of it is that I don't think I do - or that if I do, it's very mild. I could be mistaken, of course, but I don't think it's a huge concern in my life.

Actually, the person I think might have a CAPD is Seth - I've seen him and Ana both ignore what they've been told, and it's obvious that they're doing it - they pause, they look at you, they either grin or turn away quickly, you can see that they registered what you said. And there's nothing wrong with Seth's hearing. But sometimes, often, really, you'll say something that he knows like "come here" or "pick that up" and he won't even respond. But you move so he has to notice you, then you get the response.

Actually most people have that difficulty. If you're watching a TV show and you close your eyes, it's harder to understand what the characters are saying than if you are unconsciously reading their lips at the same time.

I wonder if it's like my 'speech impediment'. I score very high in all areas except vocabulary which is actually how you parse things, not how many words you know. The speech pathologist said it was an impediment & not a disability because it's so narrow band/specialised.

Oh, don't even get me started on standardized test questions that are supposed to measure your vocabulary. Given a creative enough mind, you could find several answers that seem to be a reasonable fit!
