The Paris Morgue. Well, considering executions were considered public entertainment, I'm not terribly surprised.

Human beings are weird.

Okay, I don't understand what they mean by "Medicaid" in this article. In MA, Medicaid insureds have a choice of what plan they want, and different plans pay providers differently. So, if I have a Medicaid patient who has MassHealth Standard PCC (which comes with MBHP as the behavioral health carve-out), I get paid more for seeing them than if I see a Medicaid patient on Neighborhood Health Plan (which comes with Beacon Health as the behavioral health carve-out). When the article talks about what "Medicaid pays" I have no idea what they think they're talking about, since that's, to put it in comp sci terms, an array not a scalar.

I wish password settings would let you combine random numbers instead. Because sure, we can caution about obvious passwords, but eight characters can be a lot to remember. But why not four digits that have a coherent meaning you'll remember? If you got married in June of 2012, 6512. June fifth, 2012.

Also, I don't get the other extreme, where the password will be something like 322222ruby2oceanpig3. Even if you do bring around a password pad with you, that's not remotely easy to type into a computer.

Oh, good! I had somehow missed Vox's explanation of the feet that wash ashore in the Pacific Northwest. I'd sooooort of assumed that the answers would be similar to what they ended up with, in terms of why feet, but I hadn't quite twigged to the part about drownings and suicides being a sufficient explanation for the bodies they came from.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tafl_games is some interesting reading on similar attempts to recreate Viking/Celtic ancient board games, where we have complete sets and significant amounts of written documentation about how the games were played, and we still don't know exactly how they worked.

WRT republican convicts, it's pretty astonishing how quickly and totally they abandoned personal character as a defining criterion for public office over the last eight years.

Yeah, I still don't love the idea that I might find a foot on the beach someday while I'm looking for beach glass, but... at least no serial killer is likely to be involved.

I'd like to see spaces and punctuation included in the permitted characters. I can remember "A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down." more easily than I can remember "H4ppyD4yz!" I would imagine full sentences are harder to crack, too.

I used to live near a reservation. White authorities have been abusing Native Americans for ages. I have no doubt law enforcement has committed the actions mentioned in that link.

I hate sexual abusers as much as anyone else, but why throw food in the trash? why not give to hungry people?

and this is how gross I am. the only guys who find me attractive are skeevy homeless guys.
