I haven't been having my regular snuggles with Callie because Finn's been all up in my space all the time and they don't get along. Which means she hasn't been having her teeth brushed, which means I don't know when this happened, but yesterday I *was* having a good snuggle with her, and when she went to nibble on my finger (as she does) I noticed it didn't feel right.

Her upper left canine is gone.

She was at the vet a few months ago, he said her teeth looked great (it's the teeth brushing) so I don't think she just lost it. On the other hand, she's clearly not in any pain - she's eating normally, drinking fine, nuzzling me... and as I said, I found out about this because she decided to engage in her usual pastime of gnawing on my fingers. And there's no visible external injury either.

But she's going to have to go back to the vet over this, right?

I'd take her -- or at least call her vet during their regular hours about it.

Yeah, when I find her wherever she's sequestered herself, I will. At least she can't go outside - I've warned everybody not to let her.

Is Callie a kitten? They have deciduous canines, she may have shed her baby canines. Otherwise, if she's an adult and it's gone missing, I'd definitely take her in for a checkup.

No, she's heading on six years - her birthday is in a month.

And now she's hiding in the house. This is typical behavior for her - a social butterfly, she is not - but frustrating when I want to take her somewhere.

Cats are good at that. My Boo baby can sense when it's vet time and he becomes near impossible to find.

Callie actually just likes to spend a good portion of the day chilling alone. I'm lucky in that she'll put up with pretty much whatever I want to do to her without too much complaint.

Sometimes they just fall out. My poor baby girl was nearly toothless toward the end. She was only twelve, but the vet said her teeth falling out wasn't related to any of her other health problems.

And my boy with chronic dental problems (I hope I can afford to take him in soon) seems to be doing pretty well otherwise.

That said, getting her checked out can't hurt, as sometimes it can be indicative of other things.

If she was older, that might be the case, but she's only six. I'm gonna end up taking her in.

[nods] I think Onyx was about six when she lost her first one, but it's always good to get them checked out when things change.

Poor thing. If it's not bothering her and she's older then it could just be something she chipped off while chewing something. I'd probably call the vet first and ask if they wanted to see the kitty.

If she's eating and drinking normally and not showing any sign of pain or infection, I don't see the point of taking her back to the vet. What could the vet do but say "Yup, that tooth sure is gone"?

Possibly pull out whatever's left of it, if there is anything left.

Actually, she has to have a follow-up visit anyway for another issue, so might as well do two birds at once.
