When I'm watching one of those home-decorating shows with my mom, and I start running around the house going "do you hear what she said, ooh, I wonder if she'll say that again", I'm not mocking their accent. I'm actually interested in hearing them do weird things with how they put the words together, and wondering where they're from - while not, of course, caring enough to do any actual work to learn more. Well. Most of the time I don't care.

And when I post in my journal that I heard a strange word, or a strange combination of words, or a novel construction (funner, say), I'm not criticizing, I'm saying "Oooh, coool, does anybody else do that, where do they do that, since when have they done that, is this spreading, can I do that, cooooooool!"

And when I post and say something like "Ana can't get the "y" sound down properly, nor the "l", and given that she hears the word "lock" and starts banging on the door, I wonder if she properly hears it at this point...." I'm not worrying about her ability to speak or hear, I'm going "Wow, cool, I wonder how long I can keep up asking her to say things to hear how she makes these sounds."

Because I think it's cool.

This is, of course, because you're blessed with the ability to be amused and astounded by the things that normal people take for granted.

The down side is that you probably take things that normal people are amused and astounded by for granted, but most of those things really aren't worth it to begin with.
