The WHO is predicting a flu pandemic within the next few years.

No, getting that shot won't help, so don't bother. The best way to avoid a disease like this is: 1. wash your hands often 2. stay away from sick people 3. wash your hands MORE often and 4. invest in a surgical mask or better.

And if you die, well, best wishes.

Well that's comforting, seeing as how I come in contact with at least 600 people every day, and am only let out of my check stand to wash my hands every 2 hours.

But really...how is this any different from SARS? What ever happened to that, anyway? And the anthrax and smallpox?

Well, anthrax and smallpox fall into a different category. As for SARS, I'm not getting into that. The advice still stands, regardless of whether or not there's a plague.

If you can't wash your hands, you can always use baby wipes or wear gloves, can't you?

Oh, and don't touch your face with your fingers. At all. Ever. For any reason.

If I wore gloves while checking groceries, people would think I was some kind of freak. I can carry hand sanitizer, though.

I just think the media, as always, is trying to scare us. It seems like every time there is a warning of some outbreak, epicemic or terrorist threat, everyone panics, and nothing happens.
