This is fascinating. I was taught to apply tourniquets in first aid class when I was 12. This would have been in 1983. I vaguely picked up that it had become Not Done, but, lo, apparently we were right back then.

This seems to be yet another case of loss of medical knowledge, like how the cure for scurvy was lost.
