I like mine approximately equal amounts* of puffed grains and nuts/seeds, with a bit of dried fruit thrown in. I hate puffed rice, and puffed buckwheat and corn are too large, so I tend to use quinoa, amaranth, millet. Most batches will have two of those, because of the package sizes (say, 3 cups each?) relative to the jars I keep the muesli in. Nuts/seeds I start with almonds and sunflower seeds in reasonable quantity (say, 2 cups of each), then add a mix of whatever else is in the drawer. I don't add both hazelnuts and walnuts, because that seems to make it bitter whereas just one does not. I usually include about a cup of dried fruit -- better if this is all the same one, but whatever is there.

And then I add spices or flavouring. Generously. Cocoa (say, 1/2 cup) is nice occasionally; cinnamon (say, 1/4 cup? ) is my usual go to.

Basically - more nuts, no added sugar, less dried fruit than the commercial ones. And more spices.

* I add nuts, seeds and dried fruit from the half empty jars in the drawer, so it is more decided by eyeballing the mix and deciding I can't see enough.

Not commonly available -- I've only seen it at so called 'health food' stores and this one specialty grocer that I buy most of my muesli makings from.
