The sound on Eva's laptop randomly shut off. It was fixable just by disabling the speaker and then using troubleshoot to reenable it, but I have no idea how that happened.

How cognitive biases contribute to people refusing the flu vaccine

I remain confused as to whether or not the general public is being encouraged to get flu shots or not; and if I am not clear on these things, I don't think anybody else has much of a chance.

Here in the Boston area, we've had huge problems with demand exceeding supply, and people wind up not getting the shot simply because they can't get access to it. We've had rationing and people being told that it's being administered along a priority guideline system (I managed to get into a higher priority tier by making the case I was a health-care professional).

Maybe this isn't how it works elsewhere?

It seems to me there's little point in figuring out how to convince more people to get the shot if there's not enough shots to go around. Maybe figure out the supply problem first?

There was one glorious winter – I think I wrote about this – where my insurance would only pay for my getting a flu shot at CVS if I got it from a CVS Minute Clinic, and all the CVS Minute Clinics were out of flu shots, while the CVSes without Minute Clinics had them. My PCP's office was out. I wound up having to front $20? $30? at a CVS pharmacy counter and apply to get reimbursed.
