First, they ruined Christmas for everybody for no reason, waa waa waa! (Hint: Jesus didn't send out death threats or commit petty vandalism.)

And now they're fixing their parking meters so that you can't just use the free time on a meter to park for free.

This is because they're big old meanies, I'm sure. And it's just busy busy busy all the time making babies cry, or whatever else they do down there :P

(Some people in the latter article accuse them of fixing the meters just to make more revenue. Well, honestly, it's that or raise taxes. Do they NEED the extra revenue?)

Yes.

Of course they're approaching it from a position of religious privilege, but if I'm reading this right this isn't going from just nativity scenes to nativity scenes plus other stuff, this is going from nativity scenes to a flood of active hostility.

The ban was probably the least obviously worst option.

Does Santa Monica need the extra revenue? ...No, not really, given that it's one of the richer and better maintained districts of LA. (The rest of the city, yes. Yes, it is in pretty dire need of more money for the most part, but not so much Santa Monica.) Also, that is a load of crap about lots. I drive around Santa Monica a lot. Lots? What lots? And the lots that are there charge at least $10! Unless I'm going to be there the entire day (in which case, I'm probably at work, parking in a company lot, so it's moot), the meter works out better. Lots may be even less money, my ass.

...I'm not much a fan of Santa Monica, you may have noticed. |D

Well, if you can a) actually find a lot and b) find a lot that isn't full and c) find a lot that isn't full that also only charges $10 for the whole day, then yeah, it's not bad. But good luck fulfilling all three of those things. :(

(I really wish LA had better public transit, but the tire companies killed our light rail before it really got off the ground....)
