Thank you for introducing me to a new composer! Apparently, his compositions were admired by Chopin and Liszt. I just listened also to his Trois Grandes Etudes which are also very nice (the 1994 Hamelin recording). I worder if he borrowed from Bach which he admired (and which I admire, especially the Goldberg Variations). This particular etude reminded me of Hania Rani's style although it is probably the other way around obviously :)

I've been listening to him a bit - I'm always on the lookout for new instrumental music to listen to! - and I'm torn equally between "I do not know why he isn't better known" and "I can guess why he's not better known". He's not exactly easy listening. Enjoyable, but easy? No.

That is definitely not what I would have expected a composer to have come upon with the instrumentation available to them at the time, but the result is pretty cool.
