Huh. Fancy that.

It's supposed to be another beautiful day tomorrow, you know.

I didn't realize either, until a friend on another site mentioned she was flying to NYC tomorrow, and the date clicked.

Of course, it's still the 10th here, which might have something to do with it.

On the plus side, if the news media do anniversary stories, it's a reprieve from election blah. (Election coverage would be good if it were actually about issues. But I think you've posted about that before...)

I've been watching the date creep up. I have this sort of nervous mental twitch whenever I see it anywhere. I think I may be becoming superstitious.

Let me tell you, it's really surreal to have experienced the actual event in the NY metro area, and then move across the country, where it's much more abstract for people. I mean, it wasn't part of their daily lives that was destroyed here, the way it was for most people I knew. I think in some ways it's actually scarier for people here, because it feels more surreal.

I was living in northern Virginia at the time... incredibly close to the Dulles airport. It wasn't at all the same effect as it seems living in New York City at the time had, but it was a big effect. My partner was sent home from work - saw the smoke from the Pentagon on the way home. The entire state was put under martial law and told to only leave their homes if there was a vital need to. So, it did have some direct effects.

But there wasn't rubble all over our regular environment.

Anyhow, today a young girl I know turns five. So, I am trying to think about that. And, again, being glad that my brother's appointment on September 11, 2001 was for later in the day and he hadn't gone in yet, since he was planning to be in one of the towers that day on business.
