I was living in northern Virginia at the time... incredibly close to the Dulles airport. It wasn't at all the same effect as it seems living in New York City at the time had, but it was a big effect. My partner was sent home from work - saw the smoke from the Pentagon on the way home. The entire state was put under martial law and told to only leave their homes if there was a vital need to. So, it did have some direct effects.
But there wasn't rubble all over our regular environment.
Anyhow, today a young girl I know turns five. So, I am trying to think about that. And, again, being glad that my brother's appointment on September 11, 2001 was for later in the day and he hadn't gone in yet, since he was planning to be in one of the towers that day on business.
