Would my dog or cat really eat me if I died alone?

Morbid question, but let's be serious here: If you were trapped in a house with nothing to eat but your recently deceased pet, wouldn't you at least think about it?

People talk about this like it's so shocking, or like it means your pet obviously doesn't really love you, but c'mon. I love my cat, but I'd eat her in a heartbeat if she was already dead and there was nothing else left. She's my cat, she's not my baby. It's not like I've gone full on Donner Party - and let's be clear, if that was all that was left on the table, and they were already dead, I'd do that too. At least, I'd think about doing it. I suppose I might not be able to bring myself to go that far, but I wouldn't find it shocking if another person did!

Nope...aside from anything else I know cat's livers are toxic to humans.

Noted. I won't eat the liver. Or, to play it safe, any of the internal organs because I can't tell them apart.

Some people are so prissy. I'm jus pleased and grateful the cats don't bite me while I'm alive. (They really do seem to have some conception of causing others pain as a thing they can choose to do and thus choose not to do.) If they need to eat some of what I left behind when I'm gone, better that than that it go to waste.

I grew up where pets all lived outside, and you didn't take them to the vet for every little thing, they just died off. I thought that was normal. So the whole 'pet is my BABY' mentality is foreign to me. (I'm not saying people like that are wrong, just that it is total opposite of my mentality.)

So yeah, if I could figure out how to butcher an animal, I'd eat it to save myself.

I wouldn't kill them, but I would eat them. Same with a person. I'd be super sad and feel horrible about it.

If they were alive and we were both starving ngl I'd start carving off bits of myself for them to eat.

Heck, if I died and they were alone with my corpse, I'd *rather* they ate me and maybe had a chance to live until someone found them, poor things. We've made them dependent on us; they deserve any chance they can get if we die on them.

I doubt that cat meat would be tasty, I wouldn't know about what parts might be toxic, and I wouldn't know how to butcher one. And would I have equipment to cook it?
