Cloverfield

Let's see. Die here, die in the tunnels... oh look. Seems like it's another movie about destroying my city.

Do I ever hate that! I even turn off disasters on SimCity!

Honestly, why don't they try Walla Walla for a change? Be creative! Be novel! Besides, I've heard that it's the place people enjoy so much, they decided to name it more than once. Or... something like that, anyway.

No-one ever destroys Minneapolis. Even the tornadoes don't come in much farther than the suburbs. :)

What did Dan call it? Manhattan being destroyed by Godzilla as seen through the eyes of ten hipsters.

America supposedly to be the rolemodel of the world (I lived in Holland, even though America gets ridiculed, it kind of gets to be a rolemodel) ~ and the biggest and most well known city in that country being New York... yeah, that'll do it. There is also a great ammount of 'distress' some Americans feel when the Statue of Liberty gets destroyed (again!), and it is very recognizable for all other countries.

That...

Or it has to do with the fact that it is cheap as all hell to shoot footage there.. there is a lot of pre-shot footage that can be /re/-used... and other cities like Chicago are expensive to make shows of.

Besides... why would they want to put this show in some random city without high buildings? Or very little of them? Can't hide things behind them that way.

Well, I'd like to visit Ellis Island to honor my ancestors (the ones who came over in ships of steel instead of wood), but you know me--I wouldn't like to spend the entirety of my life in ANY city, much less THAT city.

Imagining being hemmed in by other people's dwellings on all sides, without any land or trees of your own, no stars at night (city lights), no clean rainwater, no @#$%! privacy because you can't swing a cat without hitting a neighbor or passerby....just no. It's as bad as the flatlands in eastern washington. (I grew up amid hills and forests. Being able to see the horizon all around gives me the willies.)
