Waiting for the heat
Darker, colder, in and out
And still I'm not warm

*taps foot impatiently*

Put my whole *day* on hold for the fuel guys to get here, and... nuthin'.

It's not that bad. Under my three blankets, one quilt, five sheets, two layers of pants, and three layers of shirts. And the electric heater on.

I never got how the whole fuel thing worked.

Where I live, we use natural gas to heat our house. We haven't had to use it in three years. Of course, it's been broke for two of those.

Do you just call up some fuel dudes who come and deliver it? Is it just one company or a lot?

I'm trying to get my head around the idea of fuel being something you can use up. Here it's like water or electricity, you're hooked up to the network. Unless you were somewhere very remote you wouldn't have a store of fuel. Not in a huge city.

That happened to me once in Philly. He said he'd come between 2 and 6 but never showed.

Damn, your place must be poorly insulated. I live in an RV, for petesake, and I don't have to--oh, yeah. Reading comprehension. three blankets, one quilt, five sheets, two layers of pants, and three layers of shirts

You know, I never knew that blankets and quilts were different until I was in high school. In my home, your bed had quilts and sheets on it. (Sometimes "cheat quilts", which are two bedsheets tufted together with a batt in between, but always quilts.) I first saw a storebought blanket when my father went into the hospital.

You see, I keep the furnace thermostat set on 55 degrees or so, because electricity is included in the rent but propane isn't, and furthermore the tank is a bitch to change out at refill time. So at bedtime I put on my nice warm flannel nightgown and crawl under three or four quilts and draw the curtains on my bed-alcove and turn on a little electric heater and I'm quite cozy.

To summarize, you need some quilts. And possibly more insulation.
