This, apparently, is why he's not suited to be president.

Not because he's a screw-up several times over, not because he lied to get us into a war, not because he's running us into the ground - but because his lack of ability to get dressed in the morning proves that he's a "retard".

I often misbutton my shirt - not just mine, but Ana's, if she's wearing something with buttons. And I often don't notice. I've left the house with shirts that were inside-out, shirts that were backward, shirts that were inside-out *and* backward. One time, I left the house with mismatched shoes. They were completely different weights, the soles were different heights, they were different colors, and I didn't notice until I was in Manhattan.

I'm really not sure why the misbuttoned shirt thing is a pressing concern. Not only is it really an offensive thing to be getting worked up about, for reasons I hope I don't have to explain more fully, but it's also just plain stupid. While you're there crying about his shirt, all his remaining supporters are saying "See! This is all they have against him! They're petty! They don't have any real concerns! They're stupid!"

And that's not good to let Bush have the higher moral ground. It's just not.

It's fashion week and I guess people are being picking about everyone's clothes including the prez.

My god that's a dumb thing to be criticizing.

Some of the things people say against him hurt me personally, though logically I know they shouldn't. But when people mock his manner of speech--when he's a far better public speaker than I could ever be--I get hurt. Kind of self-centered reasoning, I guess, but the part of my brain I can't shut up says, "If you think he's dumb for that, what must you think of me?"

I wish people would focus on the important aspects, as you commented. Not this irrelevant stuff.

The fact that those arguments are obviously faulty does nothing to change that their conclusion (that Bush is mentally deficient) is spot on.

"Indeed, considering that he's *affecting* that accent, and that by doing that he's gotten elected *twice* despite having no qualifications, I'd say he's pretty damn clever in that respect."

I think that bit says more about the intelligence of the people that voted for him.

"Well, yes - but the problem isn't just that the arguments are faulty, it's that they're harmful, both to the people making them and to the rest of the world who might suffer from those same problems."

Oh, yeah.

"They got what they wanted - a guy they felt they could talk to and drink beer with. I've never understood why that's preferable to the 'over-educated' type, but I don't drink beer."

Heh. And they're wrong about that, too, unless they're millionaires. Bush only drinks with his "base".

Of course. But saying "nu-kyoo-lar" makes him sound like he'd go drink beer with Average Joe.

I've always wondered what accent he uses in private when there's no press around, like with his family (or his "base") or whatever.

indeed.

picking on petty things not only looks petty, it is petty.

but for people in despair, anything they can grasp can be a lifeline. even if that lifeline is stupid. strong emotion often interferes with thinking.

bush does not get the high moral ground just because people are so upset about what the regime is doing to their lives and the lives of those around them. those who support the regime might claim it, but to hold the high moral ground you actually have to demonstrate that you have a 'better' moral position.

and playing propaganda games only appears to be superior.

the greeks and romans had a few things to say about mere rhetoric ...

Thank you. I am tired off hearing that Bush is a bad guy because of little things that EVERYONE does, when there is truth out there.

I think it's more interesting to note that his staff is so petrified by the man (if you believe the rumours), that no one would even speak up to tell him he'd mis-buttoned his shirt.

Ditto. My impression of any misbuttoned-shirt coverage would definitely be, "How does someone who has an entire staff dedicated to making every moment a photo-op miss somthing like this? Aren't there people PAID to notice this sort of thing?" And thus, my conclusion has to be, what is wrong that he doesn't get told about this missed button?

Funny, my Republican-friend-who-works-at-Wal-Mart had that discussion with one of his co-workers who "hated Bush". She had absolutely no facts to base things on and eventually came around to "Well, I don't like the way he looks!"

I said, when I heard that story, "Well, he probably doesn't like the way SHE looks!" Jeez Louise, what an idiot.

Much like my post on the "evils of Wal-Mart" (http://www.livejournal.com/users/marveen/110121.html ). I don't have a problem with people holding a firm opinion, just if you expect to converse with me ABOUT said opinion (or try to convert me, especially) you had damned well better base it on facts and not silly-arse fictions.
