Am I the only one who sees this as a negative thing?

This would be great maybe ten years down the line, but having something like this happen now when the issue is in the forefront of the public mind can only result in people fighting it even harder against it. Something like this at the wrong time (and this may very well be the wrong time) may result in people pushing for an ammendment.

I'm not gay, nor do I ever really see myself getting married, but I want the freedom to change my mind on either of these issues at the slightest whim and I will be very bitter if this right it taken away from me.

You have to understand...

I saw this post and my first reaction was "Woohoo! This is great! I need to post a comment about how great this is!" but the other two comments seemed to be generally in favor of it, and one of the things I simply cannot force myself to do is anything that might even remotely be considered as adhering to group mentality. The thought of being like everyone else terrifies me. I had to find a way to approach the subject from a different direction.

Sorry it was so pessimistic.

yeah... leaving the country might be a good plan in the long run. I've made a lot of headway on my brittish accent in the past few months, just in case, and am using it all the time while at work for practice.

It could be, but I don't think there was any way to avoid it. And once the court case came up, it's better it went this way. Had it gone the other way, it'd set a nasty precedent. Plus, all of the damage that will happen in the meantime. I don't think anything will make the hardcore right push any harder; they're already reacting so strongly. So, best we push back as hard as we can too. While we still can. They're already working to weaken judicial power and debalance checks and balances. Besides, think of all the people that will get hurt while we bide our time waiting for when we should stick up for liberty, justice, and that sort of thing.
