Adrian Tchaikovsky is amazingly hit-or-miss for me, but this looks like it's coming up "hit". The sapient arthropods are a swarm of bees. If there are any spiders, I haven't met them yet!

The sapient arthropods are a swarm of bees. This is calling out (to me lol no one else I'm sure) for a Dogs of War/X-Files crossover. They're mutant alien bees, I assume? Okay, I will put this on my library queue.

I have one of his books waiting on my shelves - A Memory Called Empire. But I'm currently reading What Moves the Dead by T Kingfisher (whose writing style appeals to me).

I loved Dogs of War. One of his best.

There's a follow-up too, but I haven't got round to reading it yet.
