So, you've probably seen "literal videos," ones in which the lyrics are replaced with a description of the video. For this song, there's the opposite, a video literally depicting video killing the radio star. It's gruesome, but silly.

Indeed, lead singer Trevor Horn had lore worked out for the Buggles (one of the more memorable songs on their second album is named 'Vermillion Sands', after the J G Ballard collection) which is endearing and wonderful.
