Look, I know Bush makes a lot of mistakes in his speech. And, while I still maintain that many of his errors in English are signs of a learning disability rather than stupidity, I appreciate that it can be fun to mock them. Okay. But please. Grow up, and stop mocking valid and common dialectal differences as mistakes. That's petty, and a bit ignorant. You all know people who say "Afriker" or "idear", and if you don't, you've at least heard of people who do. Unless you believe that r-adding is really a sign of unintelligence/ignorance (are are willing to do a large scale study to prove it), please, stop.

Also, please stop mocking the guy's coordination. That's another thing that doesn't indicate stupidity. Oh, so he fell off a bike. I can't even RIDE a bike. Oh, he choked on a pretzel. I can barely eat with silverware, and that is a fact. I'm not stupid. While Bush's intelligence is debateable, it makes all of us look bad when the only "facts" you can point to to prove this are "well, he's uncoordinated and he doesn't speak like I do". Try pointing out his foreign policy (or lack thereof), or his stubbornness, or his assumptions that we can't remember what he's said from one speech to the next. You know, something that's actually important.

Oh, and please stop comparing Bush to a chimp. That's insulting to the chimp.

I haven't posted any pictures, but I did post a link on a message board that I saw on a comment on Foxtrot. Oh, excuse me...[livejournal.com profile] foxtrot_feed. ;)

Right on. I don't care about the way he talks; it's what he says that worries me. So he has a southern accent; that would most likely be the result of having lived in the South. I don't see that his ability or inability to ride a bike, fly a hang-glider, juggle bowling balls or walk and chew gum simultaneously have any bearing on whether or not he should be President. Most chimps are way cuter than he is, but again, his appearance is totally beside the point.

If he looked like Orlando Bloom, talked like James Earl Jones, and was as athletic as Arnold Schwarzenegger used to be, I'd still be voting for Anybody But Bush. Hell, I'd vote for a real chimpanzee instead of him, if that were the only alternative.

I'd actually rather vote for a real chimp than for Kerry, whom I don't like much more than I like Bush... he's only getting my vote because he's the Lesser Evil, and not by any big huge margin, either.

Oh, my old friend used to always complain about how poorly Bush was running the country, but her only reason was because he looked like a chimp.. wtf? That's not even a valid reason for not liking someone!

Amen to all of it. Especially this: Oh, and please stop comparing Bush to a chimp. That's insulting to the chimp.

But I have to admit that it's funny to compare him to a chimp whilst also comparing Kerry to a horse. But every time I do, I have to point out that it's an insult to chimps and horses everywhere. Ah well.

I have to point out the other link from the foxtrot debate: http://www.bushisNOTachimp.org

It really is insulting to the Chimpanzee Nations to compare our monkey-brained president to this vanishing species.

I still have to wonder about Kerry. He totally unimpressed me, but he won in almost every primary.

Cocaine Induced Brain Damage?

The coordination and language issues... can we assume they are possible signs of cocaine induced brain damage? I haven't looked it up on Erowid yet, and I'll admit it seems unlikely, but we know he did snort cocaine, and that there is something neurologically different about him.

Thank you! Well put, and very true.

And you're only in COLLEGE? (Or am I misreading your class and age references?) You possess a formidable maturity and drive for a teenager, good lady - or PERIOD, for that matter. Imagine what you can and will accomplish once you can pull free of THAT particular tar pit and apply your vision to the "grown-up" realm! If your posts are any indication, you're already more present there than many 30+ folks I know. :-)

From Erowid's Cocaine vault: "Heavy, regular use of cocaine is known to cause restlessness, anxiety, hyperexcitability, paranoia, irritability, insomnia, weight loss, and a variety of other less acute psychological symptoms. Insufflation of any substance can lead to damaging the cartiledge and mucosa in the nose, eventually leading to a hole in the septum (the soft structure separating the nostils). If injected, cocaine use can lead to a wide variety of problems including life-threatening infections, shared needle-related blood diseases, etc."

Doesn't sound like Bush, but it doesn't not sound like him. It would be a stretch to say that his etiology is cocaine, based only on his coordination and language issues.

Seriously. I love chimps and horses, so any resemblence between them and Bush and Kerry is purely superficial.

While I don't generally have a problem with people who speak differently than I do, I would very much prefer a national leader who is also the national speaker to be able to speak with clarity and distinction and with a definite air of intelligence. It DOES unfortunately open up ridicule and misunderstanding when a national leader cannot or will not. I do agree with someone who posted previously that what he says is more important 9and much scarier) than how he is able or accustomed to conveying it, but there my opinion stands. :-)
