I am officially terrified for this nation.

I just got through watching the debates. And I'd like to address some things that John Kerry said WRONG.(R1 or R with a number after it = my reply)

1.)First of all,he said he'd stop another attack from coming

R1.)How CAN you? There's no certain way you can stop someone from crashing a plane into a building! You just can't

That is true. However, there are steps you can take to help prevent future attacks. (Besides, Bush has been saying the same thing. No fair, little one!)

2.) He said he'd strengthen our military

R2.) HOW?!? We already have THE(Or one of the) strongest militaries! You can't get stronger if you're already the strongest

Right, okay, look. We don't have the strongest military. That'd be a nation like Switzerland, or maybe Israel. Second, even if we did have the strongest military in the world, the reality is that you can *always* get stronger. I would have thought that'd be obvious. Apparently not.

3.)He said that Bush pushed our allies away.

R3.)Bush didn't "PUSH" them away. They REFUSED to participate in the war with us

And why, pray tell, do you think they refused to participate in this war? Do you think anything was accomplished by rushing in against the wishes of the vast majority of our allies?

4.)Kerry said "We're in Iraq when we should be in Afganistan. That's where Osama Binladen is"

R4.) How does he know that's where he is? Before we invaded Iraq, what I heard is that they were almost certain that he had fled to Iraq. That's why we went there in the first place.

And they say Kerry is a flipflopper. Osama was last reported to be in Afganistan. We went into Iraq because they were going to comply with UN demands and allow themselves to be searched for WMDs. Osama would have to be very cunning to go into Iraq, considering that his organization hated Sadaam and all that secular nation stood for.

5.)Kerry said that we didn't need to go after Saddam. He said he wasn't a threat

R5.) Ummm...Saddam was JUST as big of a threat as Osama is

Which is no threat at all.

6.)Kerry said that we didn't go to war as a last resort

R6.) We did. What other choice did we have? Wait for them to attack again? I don't think so

Funnily enough, not *one* of the hijackers was from Iraq! Many of them were from Saudi Arabia, our ally, but none were Iraqi! And, strangely, I think "allowing Sadaam to comply with UN demands" is a choice we could have made.

7.)Kerry said if he were President he would train Iraq better and faster.

R7.)How can you do better faster? To do better you'd have to go slower. If we went any faster, they'd have sucky training

*stares* I can't even respond to this.

8.)Kerry said that he's never let the troops down

R8.) He already is! By not supporting them

Oh, so it is KERRY who is cutting their benefits? And KERRY who has sent them to die? Yeah, that's *real* supportive.

9.)Kerry also kept saying it was Osama

R9.) How do we know for sure?

Well, we don't. In fact, it was Bush who invaded Afghanistan with no proof that he was responsible at all. I believe his words were something like "I don't need proof". The Taliban were quite willing to hand Osama over - if there was proof. There may be proof now. I do not know. I do know that this is a near-classic case of the pot and the kettle.

10.)He said we shouldn't have gone after Saddam. And that we should've gone after the enemy

R10.) Saddam IS the enemy! Maybe he didn't bomb us on Spetember 11th,but he probably would've eventually

How do you know? By that logic, we should also attack Canada, and Mexico. Soon. The way we're going, they'll probably bomb us too one day!

11.)Kerry kept mentioning that North Korea and Iran are getting nuclear weapons, and that we should be worried about them instead of Iraq

R11.) Why? They were never a REAL threat. Why spend time dis-arming them when Iraq(Who IS a threat) would be harming us? Makes no sense...

*cries softly* Iraq's the threat? Iraq had no way to kill us! And no reason. But North Korea has nuclear weapons, and by now Iran is terrified they'll be next - they're so similar to Iraq as it is. I'm sure that the next argument is going to be "whoops, I read the reports wrong, that's an N not a Q! We should bomb the Iranians!"

12.)Kerry said "Saddam needed to be taken down"

R12.) Uhhh...isn't this the same man that said,just earlier,"We didn't need to take Saddam down.He wasn't a threat to us" ?!?

If that's what was said, I'll probably agree on this point. But there's a nice way to reconcile it. Sadaam needed to be taken down, sure - but not by us. And not because he was a threat, but because he was evil.

13.)Kerry said he would stop the research on...um...some missle or something of some kind(I forgot what it was called)

R13.) Ummm...no.Because if ever we need to use it or it gets used on us,we need to know how it works and how to stop it

If you can't even remember what was said, I'm not going to bother to answer you.

14.)Kerry said that there is a "Mess" in Iraq

R14.)There's no "Mess" the people are happier and they're on their way to being free. That's not a mess

Oh, oh, they're HAPPIER! Yes, that explains the rise in terrorism! They're HAPPY now that they've lost basic services! They're HAPPY now that there's criminals all over! And they're surely VERY happy that their country is being turned into a fundie paradise! On their way to being free. Right. Uh-huh. People will give up a lot of freedom if they can be sure of getting fed. Nobody's happy about being free unless they know there's food on the table, and that is a fact, however objectionable it may seem. Besides, this all supposes that they really are approaching freedom. Somehow, I don't think they see it that way.

OTHER ISSUES:

In my opinion,we had every right to bomb Iraq.During the gulf war,Saddam Hussein agreed to destroy ALL his weapons of mass destruction. He didn't.They found some.We had every right to bomb Iraq

Where did we find some? I'm interested in this!

Besides, it seems a bit overkill to bomb an entire nation because one person in it did wrong. Bomb HIM, not the whole friggin' nation!

What is the BIG deal with Kerry about "Mission is not accomplished, troops are dying"? Uhhhhh...yeah! They voluntarily AGREED to go into the army/navy/air force. They knew that there was a chance of war and them dying when they went in.It's no big deal,Kerry! Geez...

It's. No. Big. Deal.

He doesn't support the troops, but you say their deaths are no big deal.

*silence*

Bush supports our troops.Kerry isn't behind them.He doesn't care.He doesn't support them.I've not heard him say ONCE "I support our troops" and if he did,he'd be lying because he thinks they shouldn't even be over there in the first place

He doesn't support them because he thinks they shouldn't have to die for a pointless war? He thinks they shouldn't have their benefits cut? Who is it who does not support the troops? WHO?

Kerry said that Bush was mis-lead as to what he said. How can anyone be SURE as to what Kerry says? He keeps switching it...

What did he switch? How is he switching it where Bush has not? I can point to many times Bush has switched what he says.

And the last thing:

Kerry said that he'd "Watch the ball" you can't just watch the ball. You have to hit the ball.If you just watch it,it'll eventually hit you in the face

What sort of dumbass non-sequitur is that?

Edit: Her user info also scares me.

What a convincing argument he made. You should try to get this guy to debate his ramblings in public. You'd SO win.

I agree, that was scary.

I just noticed that when Kerry said something, our friend (I'll call him "Justin") said the same thing, negated.

1.) Kerry says the sky is BLUE!
R1.) The sky is NOT blue! How can it be BLUE!?

2.) Kerry says apples were better than oranges.
R2.) Apples are better than Oranges? PUH-lease! Oranges are better than apples.

3.) Kerry says that "Mom" is a palindrome!
R3.) Mom is NOT a palindrome! How can he predict that it would be a palindrome!? ... HE CAN'T!

And so on.

I can't believe that. Even she said it was a big deal to her that Kerry didn't seem to have enough respect for the troops. But no, we mustn't get concerned over the number of them who have died. Oh, no, not at all.

Not a big deal to whom, you ignorant bitch? Obviously not to you, or you wouldn't be going on about respect. Certainly not to the families of the troops, who have nothing left but memories. It can't be to the troops themselves, as they see their friends fall. Oh, wait. That's right. It's no big deal to Mr. Bush, plainly, because he just refuses to get the point.

Everyone knows that the troops knew there was a chance that they'd be called to duty when they enlisted. I'm sure, however, that they also trusted their Commander-in-Chief to actually be responsible about using them.

Forgive the tone, there. Oy... It just irritates the snot out of me that people can think the way she does...

Do you mind if I add this to my memories for future reference? It's just so well-put, I can't imagine it not being useful later.

I was going to respond to some of those "points" (hah), but you covered most of it.

One thing I have seen (and I can try and dig up the citations if you like, it's just wearisome)--the WMD thing.

I've seen reports that they were found, and reports that the first reports were stuff and nonsense. I've read reports that "WMD" facilities were found and photographed, and I've read critiques of the photographs saying they were faked. I've seen stories about weapons that fall under the treaty restrictions being fired at our troops, and stories that contradict those accounts.

Frankly, I don't know what to believe any more. I'm not an expert in detecting Photoshop manipulation, and I'm even less of a forensics expert (thus unable to look at the photos and assess to see if the evidence was planted). And no, I wouldn't put it past our current crop of demagogues and partyliners to plant evidence.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that she has a problem with Kerry "not supporting the troops" and yet says their deaths are "no big deal."

Just looked at the user info. She's a little kid to me. You see one of my kids is only 4 days older than this one. I'd say the kids in the shock stage of things. I'd not totally take her serious she might doing it just for attention. She's only had her LJ since june of this year. She's already branded herself a misfit so that's intresting considering the label rant she put out. Probably a very bored little girl who lied about her age to make herself look a few years older. Reminds me of some of the 10-11 yr old girls my son knows.

It's a little girl after shock factor. I have kids and I'm an auntie several times over. Kids sometimes go through a stage. The little girl would have another view if she personally had seen death or maybe lived a little more.

Ugh, how dare she defile Oolong Rabbits by putting political crap on it?

Especially when that is a re-do of another Oolong Rabbit picture + text, and it doesn't fit the rhyme or the cadence of that one (I have no idea what you just said, so here's a bunny with a waffle/pancake on its head).

Intresting thing I see is being in canada I get our news, american news, and euro news(we get some french and british stations). People are really peeved in england at Blair over his part in all that went on. And no offense but american press was a bit disturbing in some of their coverages since a few major US events. It was kinda surreal watching it. Like a movie you see at the theater. Ticker tapes on bottoms of the screen and people grabbing for tv rankings over issues regarding suffering and other things it was just weird. Considering what I've heard about protesters being cordoned off blocks away from speeches and stuff. I wonder about what some think down there if they don't get beyond local news which is somewhat censored if they are blocking certain types of coverage. *shrug*

If any of you are wondering. My mom is 1/2 american... My dad and his family moved here from the UK and then one of his siblings moved to the US. My brother also lives there so I have a fair bit of american family. Most in WA but some in Boston. So family here is worried about things for family in the US.

Yes no reason for people to agree with her... unless a few are her little buddies who are just trying to cause people to spazz for kicks. I've seen kids in that age group do that on other message boards. So just my guess is might be the same thing going down. Probably would drive the kid batty if you ignored her or made jokes on her comments. If you reacted like she was so rediculous it was silly and treated her that way she'd freak and possibly go somewhere else.

What would a 14 year old girl know about how the world operates? What is this idiot doing posting such flammable bullshit in a public forum?
This is what happens when they stop airing The Mickey Mouse Club.

I know exactly what you mean. I find watching some american press to be... well franky, disturbing. I like being in Canada and getting news from four different countries (and in two languages). It's really interesting to see the different perspectives each news agency takes. It's amazing how much spin goes into news stories.

I take that back... no it's not.

Read the name of her journal. She gives me the impression that she is either, one, pretending to be a goth pretending to have an actual knowledge about the world and obviously not doing her homework, two, oblivious to the real world and still not doing her homework, or, three, just plain stupid.

I'm looking at the third option myself ...
