As an Australian, I am horrified by fireworks during summer.
Especially after multiple bushfires in the US were started by fireworks...
I mean, I dislike private fireworks year-round because the noise is bad for pets; wild animals; returned soldiers; and people with Anxiety or Autism
but setting them off when they could burn down towns seems the height of folly...
1 home destroyed, 12 damaged as Knolls Fire grows to 10,000 acres; thousands still under evacuation in Saratoga Springs
Officials providing updates on the Traverse Mountain blaze, which sparked home evacuations of neighborhoods in Lehi and Draper, all expressed some mixture of exhilarated praise for the efforts of first responders and weary frustration at the fact the blaze was ignited by illegal fireworks.
“This definitely was a preventable fire,” Lehi Fire Chief Jeremy Craft said. “Just a few seconds lit this fire off. … Fireworks were never allowed up here. This is a restricted area. Simply be respectful. Following the rules would’ve prevented this fire.”

It's only been a few years since an idiot teenager started the biggest forest fire in the state that year by setting off fireworks in a national forest.
Unfortunately for him, they were able to determine that it was started by fireworks and the he and his buddies were the only ones in the area at the time.
He's going to be in debt for decades trying to pay off what it cost to fight the fire.
BUSHFIRES. Which is the Australian word for forest fires, our word for forest being bush...
Those devastating Australian fires in early 2020 that wiped out hundreds of homes? that killed hundreds of people from smoke inhalation? We called those bushfires.
Trust me, bushfire is NOT a minimizing word. Bushfire = MASSIVE devastation.
Yeah, there are people in Australia living in tents and caravans and on relatives couches because they lost their homes in the fires and then COVID delayed their rebuilding...
OH THANK GOD. I was hoping whoever was still hanging onto their stashes would burn through them all last night, and I think they might've. It was after 11 when I stopped looking at the clock.
Oh, what fabulous news! I want quiet again so we can hear the owls and the frogs at night. And so we and the dogs can go to sleep at a decent hour.
Aside from the noise, mess, dangers, breaking the law, and complete inconsideration to neighbors, I cannot fathom just blowing up that much money, especially not when groceries have become so much more expensive.
We had a surprisingly quiet night. I went to bed about 2am, and didn't hear any fireworks at all. Good thing, too: we're at a high risk for brush fires up here. But no scared dogs all night long.
I echo that Hallelujah and raise a "Hell Yes!" We keep having fights on the Kesington Facebook page between the idiots who like fireworks and those who wish they'd stop. And they lit them all along Ocean Parkway last night and most of the streets of my neighborhood and were going strong well into the wee hours.
They really deserve to run out of them. Selfish nitwits.
Assholes around here were still setting them off tonight and are probably not done yet (only legal, starting this year, to set them off on the 4th, not before or after, but around here they start up to a week early and sometimes don't run through them all until nearly August).
I don't get the idiocy of setting off huge boomers so powerful they have back-kicks in a densely populated neighborhood with all wood-frame housing on stilts on ungraded mostly-sand.
Between the sparks, flares and vibrations it's just asking for trouble (it rained copiously on the 4th though not steadily so they set them off between storms).
And the smoke clouds afterward on the 4th drifting into our parking lot? Now I read they contain lead. Nice stuff we're breathing in there.

that's welcome news. Love all the comments above. I happily enjoy professional shows, which were all cancelled this year. Instead I was "treated" to at least two hours of noise, minus all the pretty sparkles. ugh. I hope this is the very last industry to be allowed to start up again.
