by only reading the novels in the Rivers of London series and - since they're not easy to read on Kindle and who wants mail nowadays? - not getting the graphic novels.

I guess I could read them on the kindle app on my computer? Is it worth it?

YES, very worth it, and the Kindle format of Book 1 is on sale today in the US. A very cost-effective way to decide if you like the series!
[Love the novels. Haven't bothered with the graphic novels.]

I've not tried reading them in e-format so can't say anything about that experience, but content-wise I do find the GNs worthwhile. It's definitely possible to follow just the real novels, but the GNs have some fun bits in them, occasionally advance the background plot (in ways that later pop up in the real novels), and have some good stuff for certain secondary characters (e.g. a Guleed-centric comic, a Varvara-centric comic, more stuff about Bev).

(I buy the trades in hard copy and then pass them around for to a couple of friends who are also fans, whom I either see IRL or exchange parcels with on a regular basis.)

I've never read the graphic novels and I feel fine about that. I love the books. Sometimes graphic novels are difficult to read, and I just won't deal with them in electronic form at all.

Are you reading the books in order? Because I never had that issue at all.

Huh. I don't remember ever feeling like something was referenced I'd missed. In fact, the graphic novels didn't start until after the third book, I think.

No idea. But then, I've never looked at the graphic novels. Maybe if I did I'd see something.

does your household have a tablet/iPad? i read comics on my android tablet and it's pretty great.
re: getting them, see if your library offers Hoopla. (this reminds me that i should check if mine has these particular comics.)

Some are better than others, but they are all pretty good.

I didn't even know there were "graphic novels".
