Went to the store in what I think is the first time in a month

Not the supermarket, just the corner store. I needed ice cream. They had toilet paper, sugar (not powdered sugar, which I need to bake a birthday cake - or to frost it, anyway), and flour - but man, $3 for a shitty, loosely-wound off-brand of paper towels? $2 for a bag of chips which used to be $1? (Those chips aren't gonna drop back down when this pandemic ends, either. All the potato chip brands have been itching for an excuse to raise their prices for years.)

The possibly-mentally-ill (probably) cashier sounded alarmingly rational when he spoke about current events, too. He doesn't usually, so I wonder what that says about the current timeline.

Granulated sugar, some cornstarch or tapioca flour, and either a blender or a food processor, and you can make powdered sugar. :)

It's the only thing my mother ever used her coffee grinder for (she's more of an instant coffee person).

hah! I never thought of a coffee grinder for that - I use an El Cheapo one to grind up spices. :)

Yeah, we're going to get done with the physical pandemic, only to find that capitalism has not only continued to rage, it's consolidating its hold on everything.

Our timeline has shifted to the point where people who were thought unable to handle it are the best equipped, I suspect.

I have heard - but not confirmed - that you can DIY powdered sugar with a food processor and patience. If you want to try half a cup, might be worth the experiment.
