I have pulled the thing off the bottom of the basement stairs

so now we can open our freezer all the way. I also moved everything worth saving into the upstairs freezer and tossed out everything with an expiration date earlier than 2019. And now I'm defrosting it!

When I got that thing off the stairs, a whole bunch of crud fell out and also a pair of handcuffs. I don't even....

And yet ... and yet ... at least one someone has their whole lifestory distilled into the pair of handcuffs they ... hid? forgot? lost? meant to return for? hoped would never be found? stole at the age of 12 and then didn't know what to do with?

Everything else they ever did has been lost to the mists of time except this anonymous artifact.
