Which is awful. Of course, other people are suggesting we say "Fuck it, let the geezers die" and just go back to "normal".

This is a terrible idea in many, many ways, but if I know one thing it is that there is no shortage of powerful people who like to promote terrible ideas. If the unthinkable happens and the awful plan ever gets put into place, about how long would it be until everybody was either immune or dead, do you think?

This also better explains why this one person blocked me on Tumblr the other day. I linked my sources for why the percentage of the US population who is traumatizable by this epidemic, even by this person's metric of "can lose a month's pay without breaking a sweat", is way higher than this person seemed to believe. (Not even sources this person could argue are biased. Money Under 30 and Lending Tree on who all has how much liquid savings!) And I told them that when people say only certain populations are at risk, members of those populations can fucking hear them.

Wait! This just in! Here in time to remind us that you don't have to wait for measly facts to employ prejudice to invalidate concerns about contracting COVID, nor is this maneuver limited to invalidating one's own worries about contracting COVID: The Independent (UK): Coronavirus: Florida police chief suspended for saying officer died from Covid-19 because he was gay:

Davie Police Chief Dale Engle allegedly said Broward Sherrif's Office Deputy Shannon Bennet contracted and died from the virus because he was "a homosexual who attended homosexual events", according to a complaint from the Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council Committee.

Mr Bennet, 39, died on April 3. At a patrol meeting on April 7, Mr Engle allegedly berated several Davie officers who raised concerns about protection from Covid-19 while on duty.

In response to those concerns, Chief Engel allegedly yelled a backstory claiming Mr Bennett was a victim of the virus due to his sexual orientation. Yeah, the police chief responded to concerns from his officers – his direct-report employees – that they didn't have adequate PPE and might catch COVID-19 on the job and die like their brother officer did just four days previously by telling them, oh that guy just died because he was a f------, only f-----s get this, and none a y'all are f-----s, right? So you don't need any PPE. Unless you're a f-----. Did any y'all want to "come out" and tell us all you need PPE? Har har har.

Really, it's a master-work of instrumental homophobia in service of classism/capitalism. And to think he just whipped that up out of whole cloth on the spot to explain to his subordinates why they should stop whining that they might get killed by a preventable infection due to his inability/unwillingness to adequately supply them.

Somebody should sneeze on his sidearm.
