and has yet to make bread or anything with the starter. This is madness and it must stop. We have yeast. What we don't have is enough flour for this when I have other things to use it on.

I've been feeding my starter maybe half a cup of flour per week. Five pounds would last a LONG time at that rate.

Or is this a case of "don't already have a starter, let's see what's already living on the flour"? In which case it might take more to get a decent sized sample.
