I mean, if there's no cake for me, it's probably a lie.

Yay for cake!

I confess that I bought my own KitchenAid stand mixer, finally, plus attachments (but no custom paint job), in middle age.

Yeah, Kirk/Spock stories started going around in about '74 - my old room-mate had a whole trunk of mimeograph fanzines with some truly astonishing tales.

I myself have never found a Kirk/Spock physical relationship even remotely plausible, for one extremely simple reason: Kirk is Spock's Commanding Officer. Starfleet Command might have no objection to the two of them getting married, but if they did, they would then automatically be posted to different ships. There's no possible way the Captain of the Federation's flagship could have an affair with his highly-conspicuous half-Vulcan First Officer without the entire galaxy hearing about it, and Spock is way too conscientious to do any such thing.

Actually, Kirk may be too, because, horndog though he clearly is, he doesn't hit on the women under his command. Yeoman Rand spends a lot of time hopefully honeyfuggling around him, but to no avail, and he's never creepy or flirty to Lt. Uhura, who's probably the hottest babe on the whole ship. Messing around with subordinates is simply Not Done.

Well, no doubt, and also, if Kirk/Spock were really a 'item', they wouldn't have the intense sexual tension that practically steams off both of them at times, because their lust would have its natural outlet in bed. It's like what Spock said to Stonn: "having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting". There's also the issue that Kirk clearly enjoys casual sex with women, while Spock had "hoped he would be spared" the whole unseemly 'Vulcan biology' thing. Maybe he slept with Zarabeth and/or Leila Kalomi; maybe he didn't - at any rate, he never slept with Kirk. If he had, Sarek would have known it when he mind-melded with Kirk in The Search For Spock, and there's no way he would have been okay with that.
