Some things which I DO NOT LIKE in communities

Disabling comments because you're scared of discussion. That's rude.

Deleting another person's post because YOU think that THEY do not like the way conversation is going even though THEY have not said anything of the sort... I don't even understand this. Let THEM delete THEIR own post... or admit that YOU are the one with a problem.

*giggles* I was pissed at something that happened in a comm I'm in. I'm not pissed anymore (yay) although I stand by the less inflammatory form of my statements (which runs "I disagree with...."). I really don't hold these statements for personal journals, just communities. So my view is "if you don't like comments on a post in your community, you freeze the threads or delete the comments, you don't delete the post unless you're the person who made it, and since it's a community, not a personal journal, you don't announce policy changes (or nonchanges) without giving any room for discussion". Because those are communities. Not journals.

Second, posting a change to policy and not allowing any debate on it...

I had every intention of only disabling the comments but one can only do so on their own entries. I am terribly wary of good communities going to Hell and it was my intention to prevent that.
As for a policy change, non-confrontation and all that was the policy to begin with. I have never created a detailed FAQ for this comm (as I have had to do for at least one unruly community), but it's common sense that one wouldn't not want things to stay calm.

That was the idea. I was only trying to make a call on whether or not the post was going to get crazy. Perhaps I made a mistake, and if so I regret it.

You're certainly still welcome to debate on these topics in the comm. You seem to have a lot to offer everyone, and I'm sorry if I made you feel unwelcome in any way. I hope you continue to participate.

Nah, I don't feel unwelcome. I was just upset then, and would've handled things differently. If I'd actually wanted to complain, I'd've spoken to you instead of ranting on my own journal. That's more useful.

You *can*, though, delete and freeze comments on any post in your comm. You can't disable them, no, because that would require editing skills, but you can delete them (or freeze the threads). That would be less... heavy-handed. And you don't have to disable comments in a post. Discussion is good. I means people can discuss things, say "hey, is this what you mean?" or "oops, sorry, didn't mean to do that" or even "OMG! J00 SUXORS!!!!111 STOP BEIN MENE 2 MEH!!!!111" if they like. And then you can laugh. Or not laugh.
