once after a bad cold my mother lost her sense of smell for eight years, it has since returned in a very odd sort of way, one smell at a time.

I HAVE ALREADY LOOKED UP SMELL TRAINING AND AM MAKING A CONTINGENCY PLAN. POST VIRAL LOSS OF SMELL IS MOST COMMON IN WOMEN 40 - 60. I AM 35. I DO NOT LIKE THESE ODDS!

I take a medication which as one of its side effects has MASSIVELY increased my sense of smell. Let me know if you're interested in hearing more. ^_^

It's an antidepressant which has no brainfog/sedating qualities, and no sexual side effects.

My psychiatrist said he prescribes it to women who have lost their sense of smell after pregnancy/giving birth.

Back up there - losing your sense of smell is a known side effect of pregnancy!?

According to my psychiatrist (who is pretty learned), yes.

He sees a lot of women with post-pregnancy loss of smell, because loss of smell frequently causes Depression.

Oh, and I forgot to mention my sister is a nurse - in Massachusetts, though she doesn't work for that hospital and hasn't actually worked for a hospital I want to say, for at least a few years, so I doubt it had anything to do with her, though it's not completely outlandish for me to wonder if it involved anyone she knew or previously worked with, which just sort of added to the overall sense of awfulness.

And yeah, you know why I'm bringing up nurses, but again *sits on self* no spoilers.
