There was a discussion on CBC News tonight, and one of the panelists - I wish I could remember the name of this former CSIS agent - was suggesting this was intended more as intimidation than anything else. I could believe that as being as likely as a screw-up on the bomb-makers' part.

How it was ultimately spun: False flag from the left, of course, to garner sympathy and drive up votes. What else does the left ever do, right? How the Oval Office orange spun it: all the non-right wing media's fault - for not showering constant praise upon him. So of course they have to bomb everyone now cuz their feels are all hurt - as always with this orange, perfectly logical.

The North and South went through the same thing hundreds of years ago. Eventually the North armed their reps and senators and got good at duels and fistfights just to attend Congress and even more eventually managed to figure out guns and artillery well enough to wage and win a war. It shouldn't have to come to that but just saying, I'm sure the left can figure out guns if it has to. Desire to own a gun or use it being zero doesn't equate to being unable to do it just as well as them or better!
