Not a secret weapon if at least a third of the news services of the United States are running stories about the practice. Which remains abominable.

Myself, I've avoided margarine all my life, ever since hearing that it was basically one molecule off from plastic. And now 'science' is saying that butter isn't nearly as bad for us as it was originally said.
