Hurting and hurting every time I wore shoes. Turns out that the scab (which was the size of a good-sized pebble) wasn't firmly attached. Once I picked it off I endured a day of having an open wound again and then it scabbed up at a nice small size. And now I can walk a goodly distance again! It's improving steadily every day and should be totally normal by Monday. Which means I can stop taking the bus and start walking again! Good for my budget, good for my health.

I BELIEVE! (I once got some ice skates and they didn't have the right size when they came in, so they gave me narrow ones, and after trying them out to "break them in" for a while... Well, let's say I was pulling my socks free of scabs for like a weeeeeeek afterwards. Ow, ow, my ankles...)

I once removed the backs of both my ankles (at once) that way (the shoes were either too narrow or too tight; I had to stay in them like that all day because I was at work). We're talking inch-long/wide scabs with no skin on them because it'd all rubbed off, and I still had to work on my feet all day in other shoes that did fit once that day was over, shoes that covered the ankles, with socks on over that. Lots of bandaids and OTC painkillers (and probably a lot of drinking - this was years ago) to the rescue.

I could go super-pedantic on how doctors/veterinarians are all really big on wound care involving removing the skin if it won't come off all by itself (like it should because my god pulling it off *is* ugh) to keep the wound clean/make it less possible to infect, but yeah short of that, ugh! indeed.

Yeah, I'd more often heard that, too (and picking's just asking for infection or scarring and I *am* a picker!), but then in the early 90s we had a vet who insisted the cat's scabs from her allergic reaction to fleas be removed to help the wounds heal without infecting, and I've seen both doctors and vets offer this advice or actually do it on and off in the time since (so when I blister I just automatically peel or cut the skin away now: it saves time and keeps the skin from rubbing when it invariably opens up/gives way on its own).

Owie owie owie! Yeah, that sounds akin to what my ankles looked like, though maybe not a full inch... And I was way too young for booze! *sniffle*
