Hurting and hurting every time I wore shoes. Turns out that the scab (which was the size of a good-sized pebble) wasn't firmly attached. Once I picked it off I endured a day of having an open wound again and then it scabbed up at a nice small size. And now I can walk a goodly distance again! It's improving steadily every day and should be totally normal by Monday. Which means I can stop taking the bus and start walking again! Good for my budget, good for my health.

Yeah, I'd more often heard that, too (and picking's just asking for infection or scarring and I *am* a picker!), but then in the early 90s we had a vet who insisted the cat's scabs from her allergic reaction to fleas be removed to help the wounds heal without infecting, and I've seen both doctors and vets offer this advice or actually do it on and off in the time since (so when I blister I just automatically peel or cut the skin away now: it saves time and keeps the skin from rubbing when it invariably opens up/gives way on its own).
