Their phone system is completely automated. Why the hell does it shut down for the night? I can call the cable company at 1am and pay my bill. I can call ConEd and pay my bill. But I can't call National Grid, work through their phone tree with no human interaction whatsoever, and pay my bill?

(Also, fuck whoever decided I should have to spend 90 seconds mashing buttons before getting to the bill-paying part of my call.)

I hate automated phone systems. Given how much I hate talking to actual people on the phone, it should be an improvement, but I spend the majority of my phone system encounters wishing I could reach through the line and strangle someone.

At least this one doesn't expect you to talk to the phone. Touch tone only! But seriously, it's 93 seconds between when they pick up and when I'm able to press my first option - "to make a payment". (Technically I could press nine at the very start of the call to report a gas leak, but they have no button option for "to rush past this to the next section".)

Yes, having to talk to the *automated system!!!* is adding insult to injury.

I have to pay my workplace cable bills on the phone for two locations. It takes about 30 minute of going around in circles each. I hate Optimum.

a while back when I was waiting for new checks to come in (they were taking longer than usual because the bank screwed up) I had to pay my telephone bill online and they made it really unnecessarily complicated plus the payment took three weeks to go through! I thought the whole point of paying bills online was it was supposed to be faster!
