One thing that I didn't realize I don't quite like about Disco

is that it takes itself entirely too seriously at times. I mean, one the one hand, it's Trek, so what do I expect... but on the other hand, it feels like the crew of Discovery doesn't joke around with each other.

And yeah, there's a war, and everybody has PTSD or whatever, and up until recently the closet thing they had to mental health care was Tilly going around being a sweet little cinnamon bun of love (and now she still has to do that because the Admiral is not quite up to par), but still.

That episode where they had the party, that was great. They should definitely do that more often.

From reading a previous analysis of 45's tweets (which mirror Fox & Friends to a horrifying degree) what we have to far to large a degree is Fox News running the US by proxy.

That episode where they had the party, that was great. They should definitely do that more often.

Maybe because this series is only 15 episodes, compared to previous series which were 20+, they simply don't have as much time available to them for things extraneous to the plot/overall story arc. Because, if we're being honest, more than a few of those lighter episodes of other Trek series often came across as filler eps -- you know, like they'd run out of ideas for a full 20+ episode series.

I'm not saying we need to have lots of lighter episodes, but they can have lighter moments in them.

I've not been in a war myself but it's my impression that people who are going through that experience joke about it all the time. It's a coping mechanism. I suppose severe PTSD shuts down the humour but until you hit that stage you want to be laughing in the face of death.

I was reading how the NYPD are finally starting to ease up on Broken Windows, and thank god for it. I agree that fare jumpers don't deserve to gum up the already slow wheels of justice the NYC court has.

I love how America just finds more and more ways to seem more odd and backwards with each coming year. By "love" I mean "my god, am I living in a satirical comedy?"

One wonders at the efficiency of US defence spending. The budget is more than 10x the Indian defence budget for fewer active service personnel (maybe as few as half) and a far higher proportion of the Indians are in combat roles. The Indian forces are well equipped and trained too. The cost of being on the "bleeding edge" is immense.

The pace of Disco was sooo fast. I could hardly take a breath. So much happened in 15 episodes. I do hope they slow it down a bit in Season 2 and give us some lighthearted moments.

'Poor Peoples' Campaign' is a good idea in a lot of ways, but calling for poor people to not show up to their jobs is a really stupid idea. All any manager would have to do is make it known that not showing up=quitting without notice - and that's exactly what they ought to do, because this work-walkout is an attack on their livelihood, and won't do jack-shit to affect the politicians and corporate CEOs who are the real source of the problem.

Getting people in trouble at work is not going to enhance their effectiveness at activism or anything else, and making trouble for small business owners and managers is not going to enhance their sympathy for their employees' problems. It's just more 'activism theatre': full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
