if you turn the sound off on that pink elephants thing and play the song Spies Like Us instead they go together really effectively.

it's called Claws for Alarm. I think it might be on dailymotion. Porky never was the smartest loony tune character but he's got a brain the size of a peanut in this one. he and Sylvester are on vacation and they stop off at this place that is completely overrun by these evil mice who keep trying to kill them. those elephants were about as scary as Winnie the Pooh compared to these damn mice IMHO.

The lack of access to public land--OH MY GOSH I HATE THAT SO MUCH.

I had so much trouble down in Idaho this summer due to lack of public access to Forest Service lands because of private property. While these weren't rich people, it was still annoying as heck. Because I was new to the area, and I never had this problem on my old forest in Washington, I was shocked by how difficult it was to find a road that allowed public access. I'm not sure if they were actually private roads or not (some of them were gated, and one had a "no trespassing" sign and I turned around because I got confused), but they led straight into the Forest and I just thought it wasn't fair that these property owners had exclusive access like that, pretty much limiting access to just a few roads. To reach my destination I had to go through long, roundabout ways because the easiest and fastest access was private.

I was told that this has been a problem on our forest for a while, and they had considered trying to get those roads open for public access, but each one of them would a court battle, and there are a lot of them.

On a slightly off-topic note, there's a person who owns some large tracks of land near my aunt in Idaho, and they actually have a guard tower at the entrance to the property. It looks just like a prison guard tower, I kid you not. I joked that they're trying to keep something in rather than keep people out. :P

There was an article in The New Yorker a couple of years ago about some people who were starting a business packing electronics in a box full of sawdust and fungi starter, that would then solidify as the fungi mycelia threaded through the sawdust, forming a nearly perfect cushion/enclosure for the electronics. I always hope they're still out there doing this.

The tweet on Churchill is fascinating my grandma had told me stories of the great famine in Bengal (the region itself is very fertile) - malnutrition was at a all time high. He showed no remorse. it is considered one of most severe man-made famines. He is considered one of greatest war time prime ministers of Britain he was great for UK not so sure about the other countries they colonized then

I had no idea that England was behind *two* genocidal manmade famines.

Me neither.
