Made huevos divorciados for lunch today
Dec. 18th, 2017 01:58 pmExcept my mother only got one egg, because of her appetite. (Should've scrambled it. I mean, the yolk broke anyway.)
So I bring it down to her....
Me: Hi! We've got heuevos divorciados today, but you just get one huevo!
Her: Huh?
Me: We've got huevos divorciados, but I only made you one huevo.
Her: I have no idea what you're saying.
Me: It's like huevos rancheros, but with two salsas.
Her: Oh. Well, what are the salsas?
Me: We've got a red salsa and a green salsa.
Her: I can see that! What are they?
Me: Um. They're a salsa roja and a salsa -
Her: Verde, yup. Thanks so much.
(There were also refried beans.)

Date: 2017-12-15 08:25 pm (UTC)Sir Palomides, black and a Saracen, is an important and engaging character in T.H. White's the Once And Future King, that the play and movie Camelot was based on. You'd think they could have included him in Camelot, even if only for as brief a bit-part as his questing-companion King Pellinore had. Pellinore does a LOT in the book, but he only gets about 30 seconds and two lines in the movie. In fairness, the great Merlyn himself gets no more, but still.
I don't remember Sir Moriens at all, but I haven't read Mallory since college, so that's hardly surprising. Anyway, yeah, Saracen knights of the Round Table are definitely part of the established Arthurian canon.

Date: 2017-12-17 10:42 pm (UTC)Haha, the Questing Beast isn't even mentioned in Camelot, whereas in the book, it's Sir Palomides' idea that he and Sir Grummore should dress up as the Beast to distract King Pellinore from sighing over his lost love, which they do. (The lost love and the real Questing Beast both show up shortly after.)
It's a rollicking tale, one of my favorites from childhood that has stood the test of time; you ought to check it out some time.
