Impeachment isn't a solution either. That'd make Pence the president.

In fact, as I pointed out to a friend who was joking about assassination, if you check out the presidential succession law, you'd have to take out damn near the entire cabinet and a few folks in Congress to not have a problem person in the White House.

Pence doesn't have the support system. He would have the cooperation of much of Congress - but he'd lose all support from the middle-ish Republicans, and there are a few of them who really don't want to live in a theocracy.

Pence would have to shift around all the cabinet postings (he'd certainly want to) and we'd get several months of confusion before he could firmly take over. And of course - he isn't free of the Mueller investigation; he may not have openly colluded, but he was part of the "keep quiet and pretend to be busy" crowd that was happily committing treason, there.

I am in favor of "keep throwing sand in the gears" as a survival tactic.
