It's almost CSA season

So naturally, after we've paid up, I'm wondering if we ought to switch CSAs next year. I don't like change, and we've been using this one for a while, but the last few years have been a bit lackluster as far as our share goes. (Translation: Not enough purslane or scapes, far too many jerusalem artichokes.) And it's a long trip out for meh. Plus this year fruit went on a twice-a-month schedule instead of weekly.

I should make a list of CSA options in a reasonable travel radius, with pros and cons. I'll get on that soon.

Also: In kinda a dinner rut. If anybody wants to suggest a recipe I might not have thought of, go for it. I don't eat mushrooms, the girls don't eat squash (winter or summer), sweet potato, or eggplant. (At least they agree on what they don't like!)

If you're getting sweet potatoes and squash in your CSA and want to use them in ways that kids might not balk at, baked, mashed sweet potato and squashes of similar consistency can be used in banana bread recipes in place of bananas. My rule of thumb is about half a cup per banana that the recipe calls for.

Mashed sweet potato and/or squash will also work to thicken broth in soups without changing the flavor much (sweet potatoes have more flavor impact than most squashes do).

I mostly eat the sweet potatoes myself, roasted with a little lime juice. Yum.

you could make a very interesting vegetarian lasagna.

Interestingly, the girls don't like lasagna either. I don't get it. They'll at least eat pasta, even if they don't love it, and they like pizza, but lasagna? No.

I add cucumbers and/or celery and crumbled feta most of the time when I make it, but it's really tasty and filling, and great for warm weather. Other than that I do a lot of curries (often filling out a simmer sauce with vegetables, chicken, beans, whatever).

Curried turnips! It's basically a stir fry with small turnips, sliced, red onion chopped, and sour apple slices that near the end of cooking you season with curry powder. So good and easy to make.

Religious Liberty EO link

You do know that the religious liberty article was written before the actual EO was signed so does not reflect what's in the new order, and is therefore wrong? I posted about it less than two days ago after someone else on my RL also erroneously linked to it (and I've been unable to contact them to suggest they remove the link because we had a bit of falling out/unpleasant little online tiff).

I could be wrong as to why Salon did this, but it seems they wrote/published their article early that morning...knowing Cheetolini, the order was actually signed later that morning or that afternoon, but its actual contents are nothing like what Salon says.
