for a recount.
As far as I can see, this is a win-win. Either it turns out that there was no manipulation and we all breathe a huge sigh of relief, or it turns out there was and Trump's out and therefore we all breathe a huge sigh of relief. (Enormous, actually.)
I don't know if there was any manipulation, of course. I find the discrepancy with the exit polls concerning, and frankly Trump's repeated claims that the election was "rigged" smell more than a little like projection... but I'm well aware that I'd really like to believe the whole system is corrupt rather than millions and millions of people voted in a bigot. Just because I want to believe it doesn't make it true.
Cue the outrage from the Right.
"OMG what if Trump had contested!"
Well, if Trump had won the popular vote, I wouldn't argue against him contesting. I might privately roll my eyes, but whatever.
"LOL this will never work give it up and get over it!!!"
Okay, well, surely it's our money to spend? If you're so sure it will never work, why do you even care? Go spend your time more productively. Masturbate or something.
"Something something something crybabies/whiners/millennial not everybody gets a trophy grow up!"
Yes, and you're such an exemplar of maturity yourself, I see.
"Well, Kennedy stole his election, but Nixon conceded for the good of the country!"
You're pointing to Nixon as an example!?
"You're all hypocrites, you were shocked when Trump said he wouldn't accept the vote!"
We were upset that Trump was this side of advocating armed rebellion if he didn't win - whether or not he won the popular vote. Asking for a recount is hardly the same thing.
"I thought you all swore there was no voter fraud. So you're liars!"
Mmm, no. What we all swore is that there is no evidence for widespread voter fraud. Some of us have pointed out at the same time that it's a heck of a lot more efficient to manipulate the results than to vote multiple times under assumed names. Voter manipulation is not the same as voter fraud. Thanks for playing!
"The election's over and you lost! That's the rules!"
Well, if we're going by the rules, the election isn't over until the electors vote. So no. And I'm not just saying that because I want the electors to flip and go with Clinton. I'm saying it because I'm an incorrigible pedant. So there.
Gosh, the next month is going to be a barrel of laughs, I can tell already.
