It suddenly got cold out.

And windy. I'm running the water through the house, and I put out a box for the ferals - Lola, her mother, and a male cat I assume is her mother's littermate. It's not exactly adequate for long-term use, or if the temperatures should drop any lower than we're expecting, but it at least blocks the wind on three sides (the open side is facing a wall) and with three of them crowded in there together they shouldn't be too bad off. If they leave it during the day tomorrow I'll see if I can put a second box in there, provide some very minimal insulation.

Poor little feral cats; their lives must be so hard, especially in winter. I'm glad they've got people like you to provide them with some food and shelter at least.

Our neighbor mostly feeds them, and last year she had a better shelter out, but this year she just had a box lid with a towel, so... yeah.

I don't anticipate another cold snap, I mean, we're already in February, but I'm considering making a proper shelter for them for next year. I'm a little attached to our little porch cat, though I know she only views the local humans as a source of food.
