I had to stop by the bathroom at the Union Square Barnes and Noble when I picked up the CSA. Third floor, stall closest to the handicapped stall, and as is usual the tampon trash bin was covered in graffiti.

One person had started with "I'm really a man, I'm worried, how do I tell my bf?" and I guess all the repliers decided to trust this question was asked seriously, because the responses were full of support, including a very prominent "if he can't accept you for who you are, you can do better".

Which I know is not always the response transgender individuals get when coming out to strangers in the bathroom. And you might have assumed that the anonymity of leaving graffiti in a stall would make people more cruel instead of more kind, but not this time! It made me pretty happy about the day.

I'm often encouraged by the kindness of bathroom graffiti-ists. It depends on the bathrooms, but the graffiti I normally see resembles a more anonymous Tumblr - a mix of today's thought someone had to share, declarations of identity, the markered equivalent of porn, and intense advice sessions like the one you're describing.
