But she can't figure out how to do it! I'm sure she will update me with the particular makes and models of our two TVs, but either way.... help?

I'm not sure of the specifics of what you've tried yet, but for a basic rundown for the N64: It has two cables, the power cable and the other one that splits into three at the other end, coloured red, white, and yellow. There should be matching ports somewhere on the back of the TV (or possibly the front) that you hook those into. From there you may need to change the channel for it to show up.

I don't have my SNES with me but I think it works the same?

And if you don't have red, yellow and white ports on your TV (some don't) it might have come with an adapter that converts the composite cable to a SCART output, which you may have if you don't have those ports. If you don't have an adapter but do have a SCART port, they're available cheaply.
