One of the commenters asks how we can tell a happy cockroach from an unhappy one, in response to the article suggesting that cockroaches kept in isolation act disturbed. It seems simple to me - assume that normal cockroach behavior is healthy and means your bug is happy. If behavior changes when you take away the companionship of other cockroaches, that probably means they aren't happy any longer. I mean, shit, how do we know cats are happy, or dogs, or babies for that matter?
