With all the masking going on, we often see people wearing masks suboptimally

Wearing construction masks that have breathing vents, wearing the mask over the mouth but not the nose.

I know that this is not really effective, not like wearing the mask the right way - but is it ineffective as in "why bother?" or ineffective as in "it's only protecting 10% (50%, 30%, whatever) as much as it would be if you did it right"?

My culinary aspirations have, once again, been dashed by failing to pre-read the recipe

I was going to make strawberry ice cream as my inaugural ice cream, but the strawberries in this recipe have to macerate for two hours, and that's entirely too long.

So instead I'll make chocolate ice cream. Should I make it with added cinnamon or not?

Once the bowl refreezes I'll make the strawberry ice cream, unless people eat all the strawberries first. If they do, I'll make either vanilla, ginger, or cinnamon ice cream.

I do ultimately want to get a second bowl already, but I've reluctantly agreed to wait, or at least until I can sneak it into the house under the cover of night.

We all like Stargate.

We all would like to have a functioning Stargate network. I mean, even if we couldn't traverse the stars, having them set up worldwide would revolutionize travel, and arguably be more useful to the average Joe. (Especially if they take less energy than current travel options. How much energy does it take to run the Stargate, anyway? I never see them quibbling over travel costs. "Sorry, guys, our electric bill was through the roof last month. Either we cut off-world trips down to a minimum, or we take out half the lightbulbs in the building. Your choice.")

But... different planets rotate at different speeds, don't they? Even if you're self-selecting for "places comfortable for human societies", there's a difference. There's a difference in rotation speed between Miami and Denver too, I bet. Isn't there? Like the outside of a bike wheel is moving faster than the inside, so Denver is moving faster than Miami? Wouldn't you stumble? Wouldn't everybody stumble stepping through a Stargate?

These are the sorts of questions that keep me up at night.
