I'm getting kinda annoyed at fiction.

It seems that bad things always have to happen, not just for reasons of plot, but... well, yes, for reasons of plot.

For once, I'd like to see the book where even if the main character's mom, dog, and dad don't die, somebody would be able to avert the big bad's evil schemes. I'd like to watch the movie where the heroine doesn't have to foolishly walk into the dark basement just so that the serial killer can be ultimately halted. Why can't he be halted without her senseless death? (Okay, admittedly somebody has to die, or else he's just a serial wannabe, but why do they have to die despite all good advice and sense?)

Okay, seriously?

The word is phlegm. It has a silent g. I understand that it's a weird word to spell, but please - get it right, or just say you or your kid has a productive cough.
