Or even if it's accurate, so bear with me. Please understand that I'm not the expert in everything, even though I would generally like people to think that. Those of you who know what I'm talking about can make corrections as needed.

Ahem. Here I am, browsing AutAdvo, relishing the chance to read posts (is that the word?) that aren't all about the proper use of language and why various people are ignorant and/or insensitive *deep sigh* and I come across one link to a blog, where the person in question is loudly (and ignorantly, I believe) denying the existance of AS (and presumably everything else on the spectrum that's not classic autism). His main points seemed to be 1. choosing to isolate yourself isn't a disability, but that's all that AS means and 2. it's all in your mind. This is the impression he got from the definition in the DSM-IV. Don't bother telling me he's a troll, those of you who've read it, I know he's being inflammatory, but I think it raises an interesting point. From Etiquette Hell...

A close friend of mine once told me about her white trash cousin's baby's funeral, and to this day it grosses me out. The baby girl had been stillborn, and for the funeral they picked out a nice frilly dress and fixed her up like a beautiful doll. At some point during the viewing, some of the redneck relatives (the mother included) decided the baby was so cute, they just had to pass her around and then posed with the baby for pictures like it was some party!! They were so proud of the pictures they carried them around and tried to show them to everyone, myself included. I managed to avoid seeing them and now avoid the entire creepy family.

*shudders* How can anybody DO that? This one has to be made up. I can't believe anybody would ever pass around the dead baby and pose taking pictures like that.

Of course, it reminds me of a story my Bonnemaman told, where somebody she knew was sitting in the park with her baby, and the baby was crying and fussy. So the mother looked at other babies and felt just so guilty because there was one mother with her baby sleeping quietly in the park. But it turned out that the baby had died there in the stroller, and nobody knew.

Listen to me. Online petitions are largely disregarded by the same people they wish to influence. If you are going to push the online petition on me, at least give me a way of contacting the appropriate person individually, since that has a greater chance of making an impact. Honestly, I may want to help, but if I think I'm wasting my time, I won't bother.

He couldn't pee for the drug test, so he lost his job. The man in question says he should be allowed to take a hair or blood test instead, and the company says no, they don't have to do that.

Why? The hair test is supposed to be more accurate, so why not allow that? The blood test is just as hard to falsify, so why not do that? Are they significantly more expensive? Is there some sort of moral pride in only allowing urine tests? I don't understand.

Vaguely important reminder...

If you're in the habit of posting things to your livejournal that you do NOT want another person to see or which are incriminating, make them friends only. This won't help if one of your "friends" shows them around to people while on his/her own livejournal, but it's useful for keeping specific people from your private business. This is an issue that's come up recently for a few of my friends, so I thought the warning would be good for everyone else.

Also, if you add a lot of people to your friends list (as I do), set up a friends filter. Don't make something friends only, make it only viewable to people in a specific category. Trust me, it's worth the effort to know that your sister can't read your comments bitching about her.
